Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
• A valid teaching certificate that is recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (International teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

While it is not necessary for candidates to meet every qualification, relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

• Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
• Experience in facilitating Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
• Background in teaching within a bilingual or ESL setting
• Familiarity with cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational environments

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

• Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
• Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
• Familiarity with contemporary assessment methods to guide learning
• Skills to foster a positive learning environment through effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

• Proven track record of establishing respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
• Background in promoting student well-being and engagement
• Participation with students beyond the classroom setting, when appropriate

• Experience in collaboratively planning instructional and student support
