About This Role

Duties:

A. Knowledge and Understanding:

• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the National Curriculum, IGCSE, and IBDP subjects.

• Maintain a robust understanding of the subject matter.

• Address subject-specific inquiries from students with confidence and be aware of prevalent misconceptions and mistakes in your field.

• Be familiar with all regulations regarding secondary school curriculum and assessment.

B. Planning and Setting Expectations:

• Create clear teaching objectives, content outlines, lesson plans, and sequences that cater to the subject and the needs of students.

• Establish ambitious yet attainable expectations for student learning and motivation, setting specific targets based on previous achievements and experiences.

• Identify students with special educational needs as well as those who are exceptionally gifted, knowing how to seek support for tailored assistance. Implement and document Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as necessary.

C. Teaching and Managing Student Learning:

• Provide effective instruction to entire classes, small groups, and individual students, ensuring that teaching objectives are met, challenges are maintained, and instructional time is utilized efficiently.

• Employ engaging teaching methods that spark students’ intellectual curiosity, encourage effective questioning and responses, and make good use of resources.

• Maintain high standards of student behavior, establishing and upholding discipline through focused teaching and fostering positive, productive relationships.

• Promote positive behavioral habits, enhance self-esteem, and encourage independent work among students to support their education and growth within an ICT framework.

D. Assessment and Evaluation:

• Assess the degree to which learning objectives have been met and use this assessment to guide future teaching.

• Evaluate and monitor students’ classwork and homework, providing constructive feedback—both verbal and written—and setting goals for progress.

• When applicable, understand the expectations for students concerning the National Curriculum, KS4, and KS5.

E. Relations with Parents and the Wider Community:

• Be capable of preparing and delivering informative reports to parents.

• Recognize that learning extends beyond the classroom and create opportunities for students to relate their learning to real-world and work-related contexts.

• Appreciate the importance of collaborating with external agencies.

F. Managing Own Performance and Development:

• Recognize the significance of taking responsibility for one’s own professional development and staying current with research and advancements in pedagogy and the subjects taught.

• Be aware of professional responsibilities according to school policies, guidelines, and practices.

• Serve as a positive role model for students through personal presentation and behavior.

• Critically evaluate one’s own teaching and use this assessment to improve effectiveness.

G. Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:

• Foster effective working relationships with colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist educators, and support staff.

H. Managing Resources:

• Select and effectively utilize books, equipment, ICT, and other educational resources to meet teaching objectives.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and a teaching certificate or license with strong subject expertise.

• A minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching experience in an educational setting.

• Exhibit a rigorous approach to teaching across various year levels.

• Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
