Role Summary
You will work with children who have special or particular needs, supporting them individually or in groups as directed by the class teacher and/or SENCO. You will help provide a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment, contributing to a range of child‑centred activities that promote development and learning.
When supporting pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), you will be expected to meet the needs stated within the plan under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO, and liaise with teachers, the SENCO, parents/carers and appropriate external agencies.
Main ResponsibilitiesSchool‑Related Duties- Follow all school policies, procedures and legislation, including safeguarding and behaviour management.
- Assist with planning and preparing activities, including supporting initiatives such as phonics.
- Help prepare and organise the classroom environment.
- Monitor children’s needs and report these to the appropriate person.
- Maintain records as required by the school.
- Promote children’s physical, emotional, educational and social development.
- Foster independence, confidence and self‑esteem; observe and record progress.
- Support pupils with SEND needs, including those with EHCPs.
- Carry out reasonable daily personal care and hygiene tasks and administer basic first aid.
- Assist with the movement of children around the school.
