About This Role

GEMS Westminster School - Ras Al Khaimah WSR is a vibrant community that blends tradition with modern teaching and learning methods, empowering students to excel in every facet of their educational journey.

We deliver the internationally recognized National Curriculum for England, preparing learners for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and A Level Examinations from the Universities of Cambridge and London (UK). Currently, our school provides this curriculum from Early Years Foundation Stage through Grade 12, including Pre-KG.

Leadership and Management:

  • Support and embody the school's vision and ethos.
  • Contribute to, execute, and assess the effectiveness of the School Development Plan specific to your area.
  • Assist, represent, and stand in for the Head of School as needed.
  • Ensure that the efforts of your team and the school as a whole are inclusive, addressing issues within both curriculum and pastoral management.
  • Ensure policies are effectively implemented by your team, and bring to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) any policies needing revisions or updates.
  • Collaborate with SLT to lead the self-evaluation process for your area, which includes lesson observations, monitoring school standards, and facilitating improvements.
  • As appropriate, assist in drafting self-evaluation and policy documents.
  • Manage the seamless transition of students in and out of your phase and within it.
  • Promote interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Be an active and effective member of the senior/middle leadership team.
  • Serve as a positive role model for your team in teaching, behavior, and classroom management.

Teaching and Learning Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill the standard responsibilities of a class teacher.
  • Lead core school priorities and drive school-wide improvement initiatives.
  • Hold overall responsibility for your area, ensuring curriculum continuity, consistency, balance, and progression.
  • Conduct regular meetings with relevant colleagues regarding your area.
  • Develop, demonstrate, and/or promote teaching and learning activities that cater to the full range of age and ability.

Monitoring and Assessment:

  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team (SLT) to contribute to, monitor, and review the impact of teaching and student progress through data analysis, ensuring that information is utilized for planning and target setting.
  • Monitor standards through work scrutiny and quality assurance across the school, including the review of long and medium-term planning.

Resource Management:

  • Oversee the organization, planning, and evaluation of school programs relevant to your area of responsibility.
  • Evaluate, organize, and monitor the utilization of resources.

Staff Development:

  • Serve as a reviewer in the appraisal process for all identified staff.
  • Take a leading role in identifying group and/or individual training needs, providing support for colleagues within your area to promote a whole school approach.
  • Act as a role model, mentor, or consultant to colleagues as appropriate, encouraging collaboration, cooperation, and teamwork.
  • Stay informed on current developments in your field and share relevant information as needed.

Personal and Professional Responsibilities:

  • Initiate change and development within respective departments.
  • Attend all professional conferences related to membership.
  • Foster an understanding of “best practices” among staff and parents.
  • Reinforce family harmony as a core value supporting all children in the school.
