About This Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Head of High School and the Head of High School Counselling.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues in the High School Counselling team on all program-related initiatives.
  • Oversees a caseload of approximately one-fourth of the students in the three-year High School, concentrating on their academic success and post-secondary applications.
  • Facilitates meetings during the course selection process and provides guidance to students throughout their High School journey at ISB, which encompasses academic planning, progress monitoring, goal-setting, personal and social well-being, and maintaining overall balance.
  • Engages with other counsellors across all three divisions of ISB.
  • Participates in the creation and delivery of College and Career presentations, information sessions, and related events.
  • Collaborates with the High School Leadership Team to monitor student progress.
  • Partners with IB Coordinators, the Head of High School, and other counsellors to manage final results and help students navigate the process of receiving their results and securing university placements, including some summer engagement.
  • Works alongside parents to support student success at ISB and to discuss post-secondary aspirations and expectations.
  • Facilitates the transition of students from Admissions and from Middle School as they advance through high school and onto their post-secondary paths.
  • Supports the overarching goals of School Counselling as directed by the Head of High School.
  • Engages with global universities and post-secondary institutions to understand their admissions procedures and enhance ISB’s profile.

General Counseling:

  • Serves as the primary liaison for parents and teachers seeking to assist students.
  • Offers a nurturing and compassionate pastoral approach to all students.
  • Guides students needing long-term support to the High School Social Emotional Counsellor or School Psychologist.

Academic Counseling:

  • Participates in the Student Study Team, attending weekly meetings and following up on action items.
  • Conducts group and individual course scheduling meetings for assigned students.
  • Creates individual schedules and processes course change requests, coordinating with students, parents, and colleagues as needed.
  • Acts as an academic case manager, developing appropriate pathways for students, creating schedules, monitoring academic progress, and liaising with parents. Familiarity with PowerSchool is preferred.
  • Collaborates with the Learning Support Department, Intensive Learning Support Department, English Language Development, and Social Emotional Counselling, and participates in ILP Meetings to assist students.

College and Careers Counseling:

  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of the key features and application processes for university systems in the UK, the United States, Western Europe, and Canada.
  • Knows how to manage post-secondary student applications.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn about additional application systems as necessary.
  • Is familiar with university application management software and other relevant counselling tools.
  • Conducts data analysis related to academic and college counselling as needed.
  • Hosts on-campus and virtual visits with university admission representatives.
  • Organizes information evenings for parents and students or related programming.
  • Establishes professional networks within the international counselling community.
  • Builds professional relationships within the global Higher Education community.

Compensation
