About This Role

Duties:

A. Knowledge and Understanding:

  • Have an in-depth understanding of the National Curriculum, IGCSE, and IBDP subjects.
  • Maintain a strong command of the subject matter.
  • Respond effectively to subject-related questions from students and be aware of typical misconceptions and errors in your areas of expertise.
  • Be familiar with the entire secondary school curriculum and assessment guidelines.

B. Planning and Setting Expectations:

  • Define clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures, and sequences that are appropriate for both the subject and the students.
  • Set ambitious and challenging expectations for student learning and motivation, creating clear goals that build on students' prior accomplishments and experiences.
  • Recognize students with special educational needs as well as those who are gifted and talented, knowing how to seek support to provide tailored assistance. When necessary, create and maintain records for Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

C. Teaching and Managing Student Learning:

  • Provide effective instruction to whole classes, small groups, and individual students, ensuring teaching objectives are met, momentum is maintained, and instructional time is maximized.
  • Implement engaging teaching methods that foster intellectual curiosity, promote effective questioning and responses, deliver clear presentations, and make optimal use of resources.
  • Uphold high standards for student behavior by establishing and enforcing discipline through focused teaching and nurturing positive relationships.
  • Encourage positive behavior, enhance self-esteem, and promote independent work among students to support their education and development within an ICT framework.

D. Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Assess the extent to which learning objectives have been achieved and utilize these evaluations to guide future instruction.
  • Grade and monitor students’ classwork and homework, providing constructive oral and written feedback while setting targets for their advancement.
  • As needed, understand the expectations set for students regarding the National Curriculum, KS4, and KS5.

E. Relations with Parents and the Wider Community:

  • Know how to prepare and present informative reports to parents.
  • Recognize that learning extends beyond the classroom and create opportunities for students to link their learning to real-world and work-related situations.
  • Acknowledge the importance of partnering with external agencies.

F. Managing Own Performance and Development:

  • Take responsibility for your own professional development and stay updated on research and advancements in pedagogy and the subjects being taught.
  • Understand professional responsibilities in relation to school policies, guidelines, and practices.
  • Act as a positive role model for students in terms of appearance and personal conduct.
  • Evaluate your own teaching practices critically and use insights for enhancement.

G. Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:

  • Cultivate effective working relationships with professional colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist educators, and support staff.

H. Managing Resources:

  • Select and effectively utilize books, equipment, ICT, and other educational resources to achieve teaching objectives.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree and a teaching certificate or license, alongside excellent subject knowledge.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching experience in an educational environment.
  • Uphold the values of Yew Chung.
  • Demonstrate a passion for teaching students.
  • Exhibit a thorough approach to instructing various year levels.
  • Show a commitment to teamwork.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
