Overview of Responsibilities

At GUIS, each staff member plays a crucial role in creating a safe and developmentally appropriate environment that aligns with the school's philosophy, policies, and procedures. The educator is essential in providing outstanding lessons while fostering both the academic and personal development of students. Consistent with the institution’s vision and values, the teacher is responsible for cultivating a supportive, engaging, and inclusive environment that encourages student success, intellectual curiosity, and a love for learning.

Core Responsibilities:

Safeguarding and Wellbeing:

  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and positive behavior of all participants.
  • Follow GUIS's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

In accordance with the teaching standards for the A Level division, educators are expected to:

  • Create and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the varied strengths and needs of all students.
  • Assess, track, and document student progress, using data-driven instructional methods to improve teaching and learning.
  • Establish a safe, inclusive, and motivating learning environment that allows all students to thrive.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the school’s curriculum and planning.
  • Acknowledge the significance of enhancing literacy and oracy across all subject areas.

Whole-School Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices, and procedures, ensuring alignment with the school's vision and values, especially regarding student social and emotional well-being.
  • Engage in the wider life and ethos of the school, including extracurricular activities and events.
  • Participate in up to six marketing events throughout the academic year as required.
  • Provide support for colleagues when necessary.

Specific Division Responsibilities:

  • Teaching load (60 minutes per lesson): A maximum of 18 lessons each week.
  • Co-Curricular Activities (CCA): All educators are required to engage in two unpaid sessions each week. Those with stipend roles are expected to lead one unpaid session weekly.
  • Office Hours: 15:55 - 16:40 every Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Homeroom Duty: All teachers are expected to take on the HRS (unpaid) role as needed.
  • Marketing & Admissions Days: Up to six unpaid days may be needed for marketing events.
