Responsibilities

Main Duties

  • Spearhead the development and management of resources for the curriculum within a Key Stage.
  • Review and adapt schemes of work to align with changing pedagogical practices and curriculum needs.
  • Assist the Head of Department in improving teaching, learning, and assessment outcomes.
  • Ensure students are well-prepared for examinations and assessments.
  • Assess staffing and resource requirements, managing teaching resources effectively.
  • Keep the department informed about relevant curriculum developments.
  • Organize enrichment activities and events to enhance student engagement.
  • Ensure standardized practices within the department, including assessment and assignment setting.
  • Participate in staff recruitment, performance management, and professional development, including onboarding.
  • Monitor teaching standards through lesson observations and departmental evaluations.
  • Support, guide, and motivate team members, ensuring effective communication within the department.
  • Monitor student progress, identify areas of underachievement, and implement targeted interventions.
  • Maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Represent the department in cross-curricular initiatives.
  • Step in for the Head of Department as needed and take on additional agreed responsibilities.

Strategic Direction & Development

  • Develop and implement policies that ensure high-quality outcomes across all key stages.
  • Assess teaching, learning, and departmental practices, evaluating their impact on student progress and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Foster a positive ethos, promote high achievement, and encourage staff commitment to shared goals.
  • Contribute to a cohesive department development plan that aligns with school-wide priorities.

Learning & Teaching

  • Monitor student progress through data analysis, observations, work reviews, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Identify staff development needs through performance management and ensure appropriate support is provided.
  • Implement strategies, including innovative technologies, to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Exhibit exemplary classroom practice and engage external expertise when beneficial.
