• Support the academy in realizing its overarching vision and strategic goals, contributing to the attainment of targets outlined in the academy’s improvement plan and self-evaluation form.

• Adhere to health and safety regulations at work and comply with academy policies regarding safe working practices and equal opportunities.

• Follow the academy's Performance Management Policy, ensuring that ambitious annual targets are established and fulfill the role of performance management reviewer as directed by the principal.

• Participate in annual training related to child protection, safeguarding, and health and safety, in addition to any training deemed necessary for academy improvement or performance management.

• Always comply with the academy's staff dress code, which includes wearing photo ID/lanyard.

• Abide by the academy's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for computer usage at all times.

• Steer the strategic direction and development of the department, which includes vision setting, data analysis, improvement planning, target setting, and ongoing self-evaluation.

• Cultivate an outstanding culture of teaching and learning to ensure exceptional achievement for every student.

• Lead and manage staff, which includes overseeing recruitment, performance evaluations, and professional development.

• Promote the department through marketing efforts to enhance the school’s profile and increase student enrollment.

• Communicate proactively and effectively with all stakeholders.

• Attend all staff briefings.

• Sign out and sign in at the relevant academy reception if off-site during the normal working day.

• Undertake additional duties as reasonably assigned by the Principal or Head of School.

• Develop policies and practices that lead to high-quality outcomes for students across all Key Stages within the department.

• Ensure that practices support student progression, enhanced achievements, a positive ethos, and shared commitment among staff.

• Share responsibility for representing the Department in cross-curricular committees, such as EAL link.

• Empower and provide strategic direction to the Heads of Subjects as applicable.

• Monitor and review student progress using appropriate data, home learning, student feedback, lesson observations, student work reviews, and parental engagement.

• Identify individual training needs through Performance Management and ensure those needs are addressed.

• Engage external advice and expertise to further enhance the learning agenda and promote student progress, achievement, and standards.

• Lead curriculum development and resource allocation.

• Ensure the development, implementation, and regular review of relevant schemes of work for all year groups and courses, including suitable provisions for SEN/POD, G&T, and EAL students.

• Prepare students effectively for examinations and other assessments.

• Organize key events and extracurricular activities to foster and enhance student interest in the subject.

• Ensure effective assessments, moderation, data collation, and analysis in line with the MER calendar and quality assurance protocols.

• Analyze and interpret relevant school data to inform policies and contribute to department/school SEF writing.

• Monitor student progress and achievement against targets, identifying underachieving students and creating and implementing effective action plans to support them.

• Maintain effective communication with parents through various channels and ensure high-quality communication from all department members, including reports, PTCs, emails, and letters.

• Lead the Heads of Subject where applicable.

• Set clear expectations and cultivate constructive working relationships with colleagues at all levels within the Department.

• Develop responsibilities and delegate tasks appropriately.

• Oversee the professional development of identified staff, enabling all members to achieve expertise in Learning and Teaching.

• Foster a culture of team spirit and recognition through high praise and rewards.

• Collaborate with the SLT to ensure that departmental systems and practices support whole academy policies and the commitment to achieving excellence.

• Participate in marketing and liaison activities such as Open Evenings/Afternoons, Parent-Teacher Consultations, and events with partner Academies.

• Act as an Academic Mentor or form tutor.

• Participate in the staff duty rota.

• Provide coverage for absent colleagues.

• Invigilate examinations as required.

• Bachelor’s degree in the related subject area along with a PGCE or another teaching qualification.

• Minimum of 6 years of experience leading the English National Curriculum, with experience in GCSE and A Level, as well as BTEC Sport Level 2 & 3.

• Previous experience working with students for whom English is a second language.

• A strong passion for teaching and a commitment to the holistic education of every child.

• High levels of professionalism and consideration for the well-being of children.

• Recent and consistent engagement in extracurricular activities.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
