About This Role

Raffles American School (RAS) is on the lookout for a dynamic and enthusiastic Chinese Language Teacher (K3-G5) to become part of our Chinese team for the academic year 2026.

Position Overview

Raffles American School Bangkok is in search of a committed and inspiring Chinese Language Teacher to instruct Mandarin to children in the Early Years and Elementary School. The ideal candidate will cultivate a nurturing and encouraging environment for language learning, enabling young students to build essential Mandarin skills through captivating and age-suitable lessons.

The teacher will provide exceptional language instruction aimed at enhancing students’ listening and speaking abilities while gradually introducing reading and writing in ways that are suitable for their development. Through the use of songs, stories, playful learning methods, and interactive activities, the teacher will spark students’ interest and appreciation for the Chinese language and culture.

The successful applicant will collaborate with fellow educators to aid in the ongoing enhancement of the school’s Chinese language program.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement engaging Mandarin Chinese lessons that align with the school’s curriculum and cater to Early Years and Elementary School learners.
• Build students’ foundational Mandarin skills, focusing primarily on listening and speaking, while also introducing early literacy skills in Chinese.
• Apply age-appropriate teaching methods, including songs, stories, games, and play-based activities to facilitate language acquisition.
• Differentiate instruction to accommodate students with diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of exposure to Mandarin.
• Incorporate Chinese culture, traditions, and celebrations into classroom learning activities.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress using developmentally suitable assessment methods.
• Keep accurate records of student learning and communicate their progress to parents and colleagues.
• Work alongside classroom teachers and peers to encourage cross-curricular learning and language development.
• Actively contribute to the broader school community, including cultural and language-related events.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language Education, Early Childhood Education, Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Linguistics, or a related discipline.
• Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
• A minimum of two years of teaching experience in a classroom setting.
• Proven ability to teach Mandarin to young learners or non-native speakers.
• Strong classroom management and communication abilities suited for Early Years and Elementary students.
• Teaching certification or a recognized teaching qualification is preferred.
• Experience in an international or multicultural school setting is advantageous.
• Experience with Early Years or Primary students is preferred.
• Familiarity with international language frameworks (e.g., YCT, HSK, IB, AP Chinese) is a plus.
• Experience in integrating educational technology into language instruction is beneficial.

We provide competitive salaries for fully qualified and licensed teachers in full-time roles. Please note that there is no additional housing stipend. Candidates will be reimbursed for their flight to Thailand and provided with round-trip airfare to their home country at the end of each contract (for overseas applicants only). RAS will cover visa and work-permit expenses. Additionally, medical, accident, disability, and life insurance are included.
