About This Role

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison for students regarding their well-being and social growth.

• Observe and assess students’ emotional, social, and behavioral needs.

• Cultivate positive connections with students, creating a nurturing and secure classroom atmosphere.

• Instruct core subjects (generally English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities, based on the year level).

• Ensure lesson plans are in accordance with the National Curriculum of England or applicable frameworks.

• Tailor instruction to cater to the varied needs of learners, including those with EAL (English as an Additional Language) and SEN (Special Educational Needs).

• Set clear rules, routines, and expectations to foster a constructive learning environment.

• Effectively manage behavior using consistent strategies that align with school policies.

• Conduct both formative and summative assessments to meet curriculum expectations.

• Monitor student progress and keep comprehensive records.

• Prepare reports and maintain regular communication with parents regarding student advancement, strengths, and areas needing attention.

• Act as the main communication channel between the school and parents for the class.

• Address parental inquiries, provide updates, and facilitate parent-teacher conferences.

• Collaborate with subject specialists (e.g., Art, PE, Music, Modern Foreign Languages) who may instruct specific lessons.

• Work in partnership with fellow teachers, learning support staff, and school leadership.

• Participate in ongoing professional development, staying informed about curriculum updates and best practices.

• Reflect on and enhance teaching methodologies.

• Maintain attendance and register records.

• Organize class events, assemblies, field trips, and extracurricular activities.

• Ensure the classroom is well-organized, engaging, and aligned with curriculum objectives (e.g., showcasing student work).

Skills Description

Comprehensive understanding of the British curriculum (e.g., EYFS, Key Stage 1 or 2), including the ability to plan and deliver captivating lessons across foundational subjects like English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities.

• Proficient in classroom management, fostering a positive, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment that encourages respect, teamwork, and high standards.

• Strong pastoral care abilities, promoting the emotional, social, and personal growth of each child, acting as the first contact regarding student well-being and coordinating with parents and pastoral staff.

• Skilled in assessment and progress monitoring, utilizing formative and summative strategies to evaluate student performance, provide constructive feedback, and adjust teaching to accommodate diverse learning requirements.

• Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, for ongoing interactions with parents, colleagues, and leadership, including updates on student progress and coordination of class activities.

• Knowledgeable in differentiation and inclusion, ensuring all students, including those with SEND or EAL needs, receive the appropriate support and challenges.

• Collaborative and team-oriented, working closely with teaching assistants, specialist educators, and other homeroom teachers to promote consistency and share effective practices.

• Strong organizational and planning capabilities, effectively managing time, resources, classroom routines, and administrative responsibilities to ensure seamless daily operations.

• Dedicated to ongoing professional growth (CPD), staying abreast of the latest educational best practices, safeguarding policies, and school-wide initiatives.
