About This Role

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are on the lookout for a dynamic and knowledgeable leader who is driven not only for personal growth but also for the success of their teams and the students they guide. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of fostering cultures of excellence within both staff teams and classrooms. This role calls for someone who balances high expectations with a compassionate and understanding demeanor, effectively communicating with clarity while nurturing an inclusive and motivating learning atmosphere.

This position provides a chance to lead innovation through evidence-based strategies in curriculum and teaching methods. You will enhance an already robust team culture by engaging in collaborative planning, professional mentorship, and delivering impactful feedback. Our goal extends beyond achieving strong academic results; we also aim to help students develop into confident, joyful learners who strive to reach their full potential.

At St Andrews International School Bangkok, we hold the belief that understanding each child is fundamental to effective education. Our classrooms are inviting and stimulating spaces where students feel encouraged to explore, learn, and develop.

Inspiring Learning and Development

As the Head of the English Faculty, you will spearhead the enhancement of exceptional teaching and learning within the department. You will assist teachers in fostering positive classroom environments and tailoring their teaching strategies to accommodate the varied needs, abilities, and interests of students.

You will encourage innovation within the faculty by engaging with contemporary educational research and innovative pedagogical strategies. Collaborative planning is a key aspect of our methodology, and you will work in close partnership with colleagues and Heads of Subject to create unified learning experiences and pinpoint cross-curricular opportunities.

Leading a sizable and diverse team of educators, you will have a strong track record of enhancing student performance. As Head of English, you will manage the collection and evaluation of academic data, aiding teachers in interpreting attainment and progress metrics to guide curriculum development, Schemes of Work (SoW), and assessment methods.

All students in High School receive English instruction. During Key Stage 3, our schemes of work are largely grounded in the English National Curriculum, modified to reflect our location in Southeast Asia and the diverse international makeup of our student body.

Students progress to IGCSE English Language and English Literature in Years 10 and 11. Students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) will receive support within these programs when feasible, though some may take IGCSE English as a Second Language.

At Key Stage 5, every student engages with English as part of their graduation pathway. They can select from English Literature, English Language and Literature, English B, or English: Language and Culture in the IB Diploma Programme or IB Career-related Programme. Additionally, some students may opt for school-based English courses.

We invite applications from teachers with varied experiences. Familiarity with teaching IB or A Level English Literature or Language and Literature would be a plus.

Collaborating as a Professional Team Member

Joining our team means aligning with shared objectives and positively impacting our school community. You will aid in curriculum development, engage in professional learning opportunities, and uphold high standards in assessment and reporting.

Professional Development

We emphasize professional advancement and provide access to Nord Anglia University’s professional development platform. Teachers collaborate through Professional Learning Communities, Triads, and WalkThrus, with chances for leadership growth and postgraduate studies.
