About This Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement departmental policies and practices that reflect the School's vision, goals, commitment to high achievement standards, and effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Create, evaluate, and enhance short, medium, and long-term plans for departmental growth.
  • Use data effectively to identify underperforming students in the department and create and apply action plans to assist them.
  • Analyze and interpret pertinent school data to guide policy formulation and contribute to the department/school SEF documentation.
  • Ensure that suitable and relevant schemes of work are created, implemented, and regularly reviewed for all year groups and courses, including provisions for SEN/POD, G&T, and EAL students.
  • Ensure comprehensive curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression within the department for all students, including those with high abilities and those with special educational needs.
  • Set clear expectations for staff regarding achievement standards, teaching quality, and student behavior.
  • Assess the quality of teaching and learning within the department to recognize effective practices and areas for improvement; take action to enhance the quality of education.
  • Ensure the department makes meaningful contributions to the school's CAS Programme and organizes after-school Booster/Revision Sessions for I/GCSE and IB DP courses.
  • Conduct performance management of the team in accordance with the school's performance management policy.
  • Manage the allocation of staff and resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain effective oversight of the Department's Resource and CapEx budgets.
  • Utilize facilities effectively to create an engaging and stimulating environment for teaching and learning, in line with the Learning Environment Policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field with a PGCE or another recognized teaching qualification.

Minimum Experience:

  • At least 6 years of teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of the UK curriculum.
